Blogsite for anyone who WORKS!

Body, Feelings, Mind, Soul 14 October 2009 | 21 Comments

There are a lot of issues we have around us.  There were the catastrophic storms lambasted our country, which until now we experience & feel it’s effects.  There is this political fever’s on-set for the 2010 election.  Yet, it is a fact that all of us are still working no matter what, most in our offices, some in our assigned areas/fields, some working in our homes, some in the regular wake hours of the day & some in the wee hours of the night.

Whatever happens, specially to most of us here in the urban areas, we will still work. We even pledge that we will work until we retire or worst until we die.

Work is a very vital part of our lives & God, our Creator & Maker, must have something to say about it!  So, this blogsite is dedicated in the most possible way to see from God’s eyeglasses the affairs of our daily jobs.

Most of the thoughts in this site will be coming from ideas shared by spiritually matured church leaders & experts who understand the balance between work, relationships & pleasures. May you be blessed by this site!

Tomorrow’s post is the first of an attempt to answer the question ‘why do we work?’

In the intersection of Ayala-Buendia of Makati Central Business District. The very place where many Urbanite Manilenos work!

  1. Congrats on the launch of your new blog, Kuya Prudy! :D

Very good idea for coming up with a blogsite like this one, Plox.

Yes, work is essential on our survival. But when work is done for the sake of survival and not based on our life's purpose, we become enslaved by work. Work becomes mere existence and meaningless. Thus we drag our feet to work, dread first day of work to come, and energies zapped out by midweek. Work becomes drudgery. Without us knowing it years roll by and our work lives just spinned around in circles, purposeless, meaningless… then what??

Your blogsite will really be of great help to many. All the best to you Plox. God bless your ministry.

Yes work is really essential for our living cause that's where we get our bread and butter. But when work gets along the way of our family's needs and we forget to live a balance life and makes work as the center of our life then it misses its main point.

Good place to share our thoughts and ideas. Congratulations! God bless you more for working for his ministry.

Hi everyone I appreciate all your comments! I am just concern for some comments & misunderstanding for the purpose of this blogsite!

Leonard, I am sorry if you feel offended with my decision to delete your comment.

David, I will look over into your personal message.

Please understand that this blog is plainly to present thoughts on my personal outlook about work, based on my personal readings & studies, not just work as employment per se, but any work or job that supports your families & daily sustenance. Should it be employment, enterprising ventures, entrepreneurial attempts & other jobs that can sustain your basic needs & even wants. This is not to promote people to stick with employment or any work industry. This is not also a dogmatic blog to prove that what I believe is right because I am far from being infallible & all-knowing. This is much more so a blog that doesn't promote fighting of ideas because I am a person who believes in understanding, than mind calisthenics, & misunderstanding!

If you don't agree with the points being presented here, I am sorry but I will not debate or fight for what you think is right & what I would like to communicate & please do not feel offended if I think your point won't support the purpose of this blogsite, thus I might delete it, like so with many spam messages that generically comments but actually with other preoccupations & ulterior motives & purposes. Thank you very much!

    there is something i don't understand…

people talk about how work is meaningless and dry, but will be wonderful when we understand the purpose of work…

from what i see all around me, very "mature" christians go to work and then spend their lives at work. they are EXCELLENT examples as employees, but TERRIBLE examples as fathers/ mothers. they have no time to disciple their children, give up on educating their kids to the tutors, and then have no time to spend in truly doing what they ARE TRULY PASSIONATE about.

suddenly, an article, a blog, a seminar, a preaching, or something of similar media comes along trying to brainwash the employees by telling them that it is good to be content with that. it's good and GODLY and SPIRITUAL to be content with financial lack, content with the inability to PROVIDE FOR YOUR FAMILY'S EDUCATION AND NEEDS, content with not being able to spend time with your family… and suddenly, fear of risking in business and lack of faith in looking for alternative means of income are all JUSTIFIED in the name of Christ. is this not tantamount to taking the Lord's name and using it in vain?

the BIBLE says that we are to provide for our families or we are worse than unbelievers. so if your job is NOT CAPABLE OF PROVIDING FOR YOUR FAMILY,
AS SPIRITUAL MENTORS, what is our role?

is it to teach them how to change their mindset and obey the bible and teach them to earn more through different means?

or is it to justify their unwise decisions and cheapen their calling by telling them to be "content" with the inadequacies of their lives?

      Hi David.

Arnold here. We know each other from another side of the blogsphere. :D

While I agree on the premise of your comment — I agree that 1) some Christians are terrible parents, 2) we should not be content with financial lack, 3) and other excellent points you raised…

First of, I think your comment, though, goes beyond what his blog would like to cover.

Secondly, as an entrepreneur myself, I know the benefits of having extra income, extra time to date my wife, disciple my children and take care of the family. But, we have to accept that fact that NOT everyone can take the entrepreneurs hat, or sell something "on their free time", or be part of a network marketing company *wink*. We're wired by God differently. Some people, and I know this for a fact, is best fitted to work under an 8 hour job. You take them away from that, and the mess up. Why? Because they are not wired the way *we* want them to function.

So, having said that, the real question should be: How can we be good parents, good providers, good stewards of money (how little or big we receive on a monthly basis) and be honest workers while pursuing God's design in our own lives?

I think, though, your points are worth a bigger discussion. I just feel that it is not what Kuya Prudy wants to discuss here.

oh by the way, my post above was in connection to the post of "ate nedz"

because my fiance right now has a job
she works as a teacher in a christian school.

they just had a seminar and the seminar talked about how it is good and spiritual and mature and godly to NOT desire things in life that would help change the lifestyles of your family (such as a car or a house or higher income) when in fact, i see these things as the VERY THINGS that God has called me to provide my future family. so it's kinda strange for me to hear, honestly, and i would love to get your thoughts on this.

does that mean that i no longer have to provide for my future family and just "be content?" with the job's salary? (which can't even pay for quality education for kids these days)

  9. david says:

ay, please delete my previous posts. i sent you a private message instead :)

  10. arnoldgamboa says:

Nard, I know what you're talking about ;) I guess, as a general rule, if a comment is not an imposition of one's agenda and an honest discussion, it will not be deleted.

  11. david says:

    hi there Arnold
hey there Arnold! thanks for the post! i really appreciate it. that IS a good balance indeed on the topic. my burden actually has more to do with my personal life, given the fact that i'm going to get married next year and the whole idea of being a provider is really burned in my mind.

    hi there Prudy
thanks also for the response. actually, i'm not looking for a debate (which is why i sent you a private message and asked that you delete my posts so that it won't be confusing to the blog)
actually, i'm glad that you gave the balance as with Arnold. i love the thought of being a good steward of our finances :) i'm looking forward to your response in the private message as well :)

David, in as much as I am interested to help people with personal finance & how to become the best steward of God's riches, I believe there are those who are way ahead & much much far better & experts than I am. I leave the matter to them & become faithful on assisting people on the way how people look at their jobs, again it maybe employment or entrepreneurial, it doesn't matter to me, as long as I help to make them be blessed by it!

So far, as I become more exposed in the media & the web I find Mr. Colayco, Mr. Francis Kong, Ptr. Chinkee Tan & Mr. Randell Tiongson as great teachers, in the Philippines, on the subject matter. Specially that most of these guys are faithful Christians.

I am an avid follower of Ptr. Chinkee's published materials (if you haven't have his books you better have one) & a follower of Mr. Tiongson's blogs. I learn & discover great tips on how to handle my finances & be a good faithful manager of God's resources from them.

Should you be interested please check my blogroll (links) & click Life & Personal Finance, that is Mr. Tiongson's blogsite.
